Spring '24: The Journey | Aaron & Venice Beach Skate Park

Part of our series of stories for Spring '24 from people & places that inspire us, we spoke to casual skater Aaron Ladej who's been visiting the iconic Venice Beach Skate Park in LA for years.

Venice Beach, which is affectionately known as Dogtown by locals, is where the legendary Z-Boys developed their interest in skating, taking it from a niche hobby to the mainstream.

"Skating clears your mind. You're just focused on the board rather than what's happening in your life."

“Most of the skaters here are good people. It's such a popular spot so you get an audience sometimes. There's a real mix of people though, you see pros doing some crazy stuff.

They're regular people though, just like us. I think skating is a bit more transparent like that. Pro skaters are just people."

“Skating gives me freedom. You can just be who you want to be. In life, you want to remove as many restrictions as you can."
